Echoes of history starting to be heard

Work has started on the next phase of Tredegar's ambitious Heritage Lottery Fund project

The band continues to make excellent progress with its ambitious Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) project.

Started in July this year, it aims to provide a multi-media resource interpreting the social, cultural and musical achievements of the band over its 170 year existence.

Foundations laid

This first phase providing an extensive foundation that brings together varied resources, images, artefacts, memorabilia and information to be curated, preserved, digitised and displayed is well underway.

Work has also been started on the second phase which will see these elements enhanced by further detailed explanations, the use of interactive QR coding, and links to other resource material that will add further information and understanding, including links to local history society websites, local authority archives etc.

CD recording

There have also been exciting developments with the first recordings of works that have a special significance to the project already being placed on the Heritage website, with the latest work seeing the first draft of what will eventually become the first of two special CD recordings which will be made available to visitors, supporters and the general public for free (above).

We have now completed a great deal of the foundation work of the HLF project. We now have to build on this over the coming few months, adding the extra levels of innovative, interactive appeal that we believe will make this one of the very best projects of its kind in the banding world

Best projects

Project Leader Iwan Fox said: “We have now completed a great deal of the foundation work of the HLF project. We now have to build on this over the coming few months, adding the extra levels of innovative, interactive appeal that we believe will make this one of the very best projects of its kind in the banding world.”

He added: “There is still so much more to do though, but we have linked up with leading professionals, such as Mango Graphic Design and Goldy Solutions to really bring things to life.

There are more things in the pipeline as we unearth so much fantastic heritage about the band.”
